Warren and Mahoney was commissioned to act as Architects to the Victoria Park Tunnel Alliance – an NZTA project - working alongside BECA, Fletcher Construction, and Boffa Miskell Ltd. In particular, the commission involved collaborating with Boffa Miskell in addressing the urban design demands of the project. This work has involved designing and advising on a wide range of structures. Community consultation has also been involved as has extensive liaison with the Auckland Council Urban Design Panel and Urban Design review teams.
A 100m pedestrian and cycle footbridge has been designed in concert with Structural Engineers, SKM. The tunnel portals and approaches have also been included in the commission. Plant-rooms and egress structures have been designed with the project’s services engineering team and advice provided on the conservation of listed heritage buildings adjacent to the tunnel, including the comprehensive restoration of the Campbell Free Kindergarten. The role has also involved integrating inputs of local Māori through the involvement of an Iwi Artist collaborative.
