The George Hotel

Located in the heart of Christchurch, overlooking Hagley Park and the River Avon, this refurbished boutique hotel is now the essence of comfort and luxury.

In all, there are 50 suites across four levels: nine Executive Rooms, 32 Premium Executive Rooms, four Junior Suites, two Residence Suites, and six Park Suites.

To give each suite a lighter, more spacious feeling, we re-oriented the entry to the bathrooms, rationalised the storage space, and created glamorous mirrored entry lobbies. The addition of sliding opaque glass doors to the bathrooms also created more useable floor area and improved the flow between spaces.

Dark timber, mirror, mosaic tile, and plush velvet now give the space a sophisticated, upmarket look, while the muted colour pallet creates a feeling of calm and serenity. 

A focal point in each room is the perforated graphic lacquer panels.  These feature an abstracted oak leaf design inspired by the planting of an English Oak tree at the 1863 inauguration of the Christchurch Botanic Gardens. The panels reference The George’s enviable park-side setting, and provide an elegant point of difference in a world of ubiquitous hotel artwork. 

The state-of-the-art design includes elegant touch-sensitive switches to control heating and lighting, electronic service indicators, and an individual door bell for each room. 

In keeping with The George’s commitment to sustainability, each room has also been fitted with an intuitive energy management system which shuts off lighting when the rooms are unoccupied.
