Striking in both design and appearance, Rhubarb Lane’s fourth building ‘Tattoo’ encapsulates a sense of rawness, culture and industrialism. Nestled in between buildings on Rhubarb Lane, the building demands a strong presence in the heart of Auckland’s CBD and amplifies the desire for urban living.
Inspired by the historical and modern methods of tattooing, Warren and Mahoney wanted to create an image of beauty with an exciting signature characteristic - the Rhubarb Lane façade. The animated façade of adjustable louvres reveals an impressive graphic designed by a local tattoo artist etched onto the vertical metal blades to reflect the building’s unique characteristics.
The building interiors play on solids and voids, functionality and versatility - easy living through clever space planning. The use of natural materials such as timber, glass, steel and concrete project contrasting warm and cool palettes into the building’s spatial experience.
