Lakeview

Lakeview is an important site, on the periphery of the CBD with elevated iconic views, and closely connected to the future growth and success of Queenstown. It represents an opportunity to set a benchmark for quality urban design and architecture.

The development of the Lakeview site draws its inspiration from, and contributes to, the existing qualities of Queenstown – both in terms of urban design, and in terms of social diversity.

Historic Queenstown settlement patterns have led to a fine grain of development, with a distinct pattern of small lot sizes, intimate urban spaces, laneways, and architectural diversity – these are the qualities that inform the design of a new master plan on the site of the former Lakeview campground.

The master plan has been designed around the creation of a generous network of public spaces which facilitate the interaction and integration of visitors and residents alike. This network of spaces, paths and laneways encourages pedestrian movement across and through the site, defining nodes of access adjacent the mountain while becoming more permeable and more intimate as they approach the lake.

A model for a sustainable Queenstown.
