architecture is about the making of things; an outcome of the head and hand, experiment and memory.

Jonathan Hewlett

Jonathan joined Warren and Mahoney in 1999, bringing to the practice his energy and enthusiasm together with a sound knowledge in the making of architecture.   In 2003 he was appointed a Principal and Shareholder of the practice.

Jonathan particularly enjoys designing in the tertiary education, performing arts and hospitality sectors.  His design philosophy is based on the belief that buildings are designed to meet the needs of a variety of people ensuring they get an equal experience when engaging with that building.  Spaces need to be created that contribute, but not distract from, the purpose of the building.

Jonathan believes in the making of architecture and taking an idea from the exploration of creating space, adding pieces to define the spaces and finishing with the smallest details that give proportion and style to the spaces.  He sees architecture as the craftsmanship of making objects and spaces.

Jonathan appreciates the Warren and Mahoney awareness of environmental sustainability coupled with their rich heritage and approach to the tectonics of architecture.  He has a passion for architecture that sets high standards to produce quality results.  He enjoys the whole process from listening to his client’s needs to creating a building with integrity and cohesion which results in a great building with attention to every detail.
